About Trees to Please
Farm, Nursery and Grower
Trees To Please is a farm, nursery and grower of Christmas trees and various landscape trees and shrubs, annuals and perennials. There are two locations: Rome and Norridgewock. Growing Christmas trees is the main focus of the business and is where the farm began. The reality of growing Christmas trees is that there is some seasonal downtime such as during the winter months and the initial growing period of late June through the end of July. After providing a premium quality Christmas tree for several years, this allowed us the opportunity to capitalize on its success in the Maine Christmas tree industry by utilizing the profits to venture into cottage industries with the intent to fill that seasonal downtime. Today, the Christmas trees remain the focal point of the farm and provide continued success and expansion of our cottage industries. Approximately 45,000 Christmas trees are managed between the two farms.
The Rome farm, located on eleven acres, supplies Christmas trees for wholesale and for pre-cut trees at the Norridgewock retail location in November and December. It also supplies trees to the landscape and greenhouse industries from April through June. The sixteen-acre sugar bush and shack are located here for maple syrup production. This location supplies several wholesalers as well as the Norridgewock Christmas shop.
The Norridgewock farm, located on seventy-six acres, is home to several crops – Christmas trees and other conifers. In 2016, the first 32×72 heated greenhouse was constructed for annual flower production for retail purchase from April until July. After the first year, our garden center grew. We now have four greenhouses for annuals, perennials and decorative flowering containers. We also have a potted fruit tree nursery, gift shop and warehouse to store supplies. Beyond the greenhouses, we have two irrigated mum fields for our own mum production of over 3,000 mum containers. We also grow one-acre of pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks for our fall mum and pumpkin sales from September 1st to September 30th.
The end of October marks the beginning of the most important time of the year for the farm – the wholesale Christmas tree harvest followed by our retail Choose and Cut operation.
Trees are harvested for wholesale and loaded and shipped to various locations throughout Maine. The outdoor retail areas in Norridgewock are transformed to a pre-cut Christmas tree lot with stands and lighting to display our fresh-cut Christmas trees and other fresh greens for outdoor decorations.
The building that served as a farm stand for fall mums and pumpkins is decorated for the holiday season with fresh greens from our farm, a by-product of the Christmas tree harvest.
The gift shop is filled with Christmas decorations and gifts. Hundreds of outdoor decorations including wreaths, kissing balls, garland and more and indoor decorations such as table centerpieces and floral arrangements are created in the workshop on the farm using the fresh greens gathered following the wholesale Christmas tree harvest.
